News & Updates‘LOOKING FOR TREBLE’: A PUBLIC ART CONTEST MOUNT DORA: The Mount Dora Music Festival invites local artists to go ‘Looking For Treble’, in a public art contest. Open to all Lake County artists ages 18 and over, contestants are invited to create a unique artistic vision of a musical treble clef. The winning design will become a promotional image for the upcoming Music Festival to be held February 17-20, 2011. Artists must submit a contest application and two sketches displaying different views of the same treble clef design, including a color rendering noting the weather-resistant materials to be used for the final public art piece, plus a $15.00 non-refundable entry fee. Entries are limited to one per artist and all sketches become the sole property of the festival. Directors, staff and family members of the Mount Dora Music Festival are not eligible to enter. “This year we’re trying to bridge the gap between music and art by inviting the local art community to design the festival’s promotional image,” explains MDMF president Pat Nelson. “The winning design will be displayed at various locations throughout Mount Dora beginning in September and will remain in the public eye until the festival. During the multi-day event in February, the Treble Clef will be part of a silent auction and the highest bidder will be announced Saturday evening just prior to the headline concert.” Applications can be obtained during regular business hours at the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce, 342 North Alexander Street, or on-line at the festival website, www.mountdoramusicfest.com. The $15 entry fee can be paid either by Paypal, or by check made payable to the Mount Dora Music Festival. Contest applications, sketches and entry fee must be received or postmarked by Monday, August 9, 2010. Submit on-line to www.mountdoramusicfest.com, drop off at the Mount Dora Chamber of Commerce or mail to Mount Dora Music Festival Contest, P.O. Box 712, Mount Dora, Florida 32756. The designs will be judged by representatives of the Lake County Arts and Cultural Alliance, Mount Dora Village Merchants and Business Association, and Mount Dora Music Festival. Three winners will be chosen and their sketches will be displayed on the festival website at www.mountdoramusicfest.com. The First Place winner will then bring their sketch to life by creating a 5½ foot high x 24 inch wide public art piece that stands on its own base and weighs a maximum of 25 pounds. All materials are to be provided by the artist and the deadline for delivery of the final art piece is Thursday, August 26, at 4:00 p.m. The winning art piece will be featured as a promotional symbol of the festival in the months leading up to the 2011 event. On Friday, August 27, at 6 p.m. the contest’s top three designers will be honored at a reception for all entrants at the Mount Dora Center for the Arts, 138 East 5th Avenue. Prizes for winners include:
Proceeds of the event benefit the Mount Dora Music Festival, a non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that presents a variety of free and ticketed performances, seminars and educational workshops for all economic levels of local residents and visitors to our community. |
